How to organise your wedding
Step 1 - When you decide on a date, check that it doesn't clash with any other events in your family or in the community nearby - you don't want anyone stuck in traffic because there is a grand final match taking place down the road and imagine the disappointment if any of your guests are torn between attending your ceremony and missing out on another important event.
Step 2 - Decide on a budget and stick to it.
Step 3 - Once you know when your ceremony is taking place and you have decided how many people you are planning to invite, look in your chosen area for venues that tick all your boxes - size, location, price and inclusions. Book that as soon as you can to avoid any last-minute panic. You need to consider if this is where you will be having your ceremony and your reception or whether guests will need to travel from one to the other. Also consider what options are available if the weather prevents an outdoor ceremony.
Step 4 is to find a suitable minister or celebrant - bear in mind that a good celebrant may well have bookings up to two years in advance! It is important that you sit down with any prospective celebrants and make sure that you are comfortable with their approach before making a decision - everyone is different and you don't want to find out you are incompatible on your wedding day!
NB You need to lodge your Notice of Intended Marriage with your chosen celebrant at least one month and one day before your wedding.
Step 5 - Contact a gift registry and make a list of your preferred gifts.
Step 6 - Prepare a list of potential guests and send out your invitations as soon as you can.

Step 7 - Decide who is to be in your bridal party - remember that there are a number of roles that your friends can play in the ceremony, from bridesmaids and groomsmen to witnesses and readers. and ushers.
Step 8 - Arrange your wedding dress and the clothes for your party.
Step 9 - Book your photographer and videographer. If you can find someone who has used a particlular supplier and was happy with them, this is always preferable to just responding to an advertisement.
Step 10 - Book your hair and makeup suppliers - try a trial makeup and hair session some time before the ceremony.
Step 11 - Book your transport or make arrangements to use a friend's car.
Step 12- Choose your wedding rings. Allow plenty of time for this
Step 13 - Choose your wedding cake. When you choose a cake ensure that it will be big enough for every guest to leave your wedding with a slice.
Step 14 - Consider having wedding insurance in case of problems which may be out of your control.
Step 15 - Book an MC for your reception or ask a friend. If using a friend make sure they are comfortable and preferably experienced with speaking in public.
Step 16 - Book musicians or a DJ for the reception. Make sure that you are very clear on the type of music that you want played.
Step 17 - Arrange flowers - consider what kinds of flowers are in season at the time you are getting married.
