As well as the naming of a biological child this is a wonderful way of introducing an adopted child or a stepchild into the family — the parents have the opportunity to declare before their family and friends that the new child is part of their family, with all rights and privileges that go with that, and to declare their intentions and obligations as far as the child is concerned.
